Promoting A Coffee Shop

Promoting A Coffee Shop

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

Promotion is one of the most important parts of running a coffee shop. Whether you need to promote a new coffee shop or bring new customers into an already established shop, the same methods will work.

Coffee shops are not just about coffee; coffee related merchandise is one of the most important parts. Try to find out what most of your customers want, and emphasize the related merchandise. Set up visually appealing displays to catch your customer’s eyes.

Specialty drinks are another big part of a successful coffee shop. Maybe you have a special type of imported coffee that no other or few other shops carry. Maybe you have a specific coffee concoction that your shop specially creates or has blends for you. Whatever your specialty is, make sure people are aware of it.

Personal interaction is a great way to promote your coffee shop. You could have someone hand out fliers, or you could post about your shop on coffee message boards online. You could also have someone stand somewhere outside holding a sign advertising your shop, and grab more attention than a regular sign.

Having a sale on specific items is always a great way to grab people's attention. In addition, a sale can be used in many different ways; you can have a sale on one piece of a set in the hopes that people will want to buy the other pieces, or you can have a sale on certain types of coffee in the hopes that people will like that type and buy more later. You could have a sale where customers get something free if they buy a certain amount of something else. The possibilities are endless.

Free samples are another attention grabber. Whether you give away small cups of already-made coffee, or small bags of coffee beans or coffee grounds, getting people to try to enjoy your product is the first step to getting people to buy your products.

Word of mouth is one of the most valuable promotional tools available. If your customers enjoy your shop and what they get from it, they are likely to tell their friends; and people are more likely to visit your shop if people they know and trust the judgment of those that enjoyed it.

The most important part of promotion is to keep your name out there. Keep trying new and different ideas. To be successful, you must keep bringing in new customers while keeping your old customers satisfied.
